TBR Pile Review: F*ck Love by Tarryn Fisher

Helena Conway has fallen in love.
Unwillingly. Unwittingly.
But not unprovoked.
Kit Isley is everything she’s not—unstructured, untethered,
and not even a little bit careful.
It could all be so beautiful … if he wasn’t dating her best friend.
Helena must defy her heart, do the right thing, and think of others.
Until she doesn’t.

F*ck Love left me truly mind f*cked. Even after finishing this book nearly a week ago, I don’t know the exact words that I would use for this review. After the complete and utter out of left twist thrown in within the first two chapters, I was left dumbfounded and confused. There were so many times I had to stop and re-read the previous chapter because my mind just couldn’t grasp the varying story lines and separate reality from dream state. This is the kind of book that once you finish it you will ask both “What the hell did I just read?” and “How in the hell do I write this review?”

Helena bubbly personality instantly disappears after a single dream and as I read, I really wished the Helena from chapter 1 would have flowed into the rest of the book. Kit, on the other hand, at times became the bane of my existence during certain points of the story. His constant back and forth on the major plot lines of this stories really began to rub me the wrong way. I got to the point a few times where I would rather he just disappear into the night than to constantly tease and plague Helena’s emotions and life. I do have to make mention that Fisher’s love for Harry Potter culture that is wildly acknowledged through Helena’s dialogue made my inner Potterhead snicker with delight.

All in all, I liked this book even though my mixed feelings about some of the situations. I think this book will fall into three categories for readers, love, hate or the middle of the road. For me, I definitely fell into the latter category. While this was my first Tarryn Fisher book, I will definitely try more of her books in the future.
