Tuesday Reviews: The Wolf by J. Kenner

She spent her life running from monsters. But the most dangerous one was always behind her.

Leo Grimm has always lived for the chase—whether in the boardroom, the bedroom, or in the secrets buried beneath his family’s name. Ruthless and relentless, he’s never lost a hunt. Except once.

Ruby Ryder was the one obsession he couldn’t shake, the one woman who slipped from his grasp. Now, she’s back—terrified, desperate, and hunted by an enemy she can’t outrun. And this time, Leo isn’t letting her go.

He’ll protect her… for a price. Her trust. Her surrender. Her heart.

But the closer Ruby gets to Leo, the more she realizes the real danger isn’t the one chasing her—it’s the man who almost caught her before. The man who left scars that never healed. The man whose family destroyed hers.

In the wolf’s deadly embrace, Ruby discovers the ultimate seduction of surrender… as well as its all-consuming terror. Because once the wolf sinks his teeth in, he won’t just own her body—he’ll consume her soul.

The Wolf is the second book in J. Kenner’s Billionaire Brothers Grimm series and gives us Leo Grimm and Ruby Ryder’s story. It’s a dark, modern twist on Little Red Riding Hood with a second-chance romance, enemies-to-lovers tension, and plenty of heat.

Seven years after Leo broke Ruby’s heart, their paths cross again when danger brings them back together. Leo is determined to protect the woman he never stopped loving, while Ruby fights to keep her distance after years of hurt. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their dynamic constantly shifts between love, anger, and passion.

J. Kenner blends billionaire drama, suspense, and fairy-tale elements into a steamy, emotional story about power, guilt, and redemption. The push-and-pull between Leo and Ruby keeps the tension high, and there are some great moments of vulnerability that show how much both characters have grown.

That said, the pacing can feel uneven. Some arguments and emotional beats repeat too often, which slows down the story and makes the middle section drag a little. The mystery element adds interest, but I wished the revelations had more impact. Still, the emotional payoff in the final chapters works well, and the connection between the main characters feels genuine.

The Wolf is dark, sexy, and addictive, with a mix of angst, danger, and passion that fans of J. Kenner will love. It’s not a perfect story, but it delivers what it promises—drama, heat, and a fairy-tale edge with a modern twist. I’m looking forward to seeing how the next book continues the Grimm brothers’ saga.
