Tuesday Reviews: Devoted by Luna Mason

Simmering between a mafia king and his enemy's daughter, a forbidden desire could ignite a war within New York City in this irresistible dark romance for fans of J.T. Geissinger, Sav R. Miller, Rina Kent, and Shantel Tessier.

Luca

From foster kid to mafia boss. I was the undeserving king to the throne, forced into this role after my estranged father’s death. I gave up everything to build my empire. Up until this point, nothing else mattered. That was until I kidnapped my enemy’s daughter, and she captured my heart. Rosa Falcone. il mio tesoro. When fate drags Rosa back into my world, I can't make the same mistake again. Even when the future of the mafia depends on my arranged marriage. I still can’t resist her. She is mine. There’s no way in hell I can watch her marry another man. Even if it means starting a war.

Rosa

The wild child, the spoilt mafia princess. No one understood my pain, so I hid behind the mask. That was until Luca Russo stole me from my life, only to put me back together again. I gave him my heart, and he let me go—back into the arms of my abuser. This time, I don’t have anyone to protect me. Or so I thought. Luca might not be mine to keep, but that doesn’t stop me from falling deeper. But when the world is against us, how much would we be willing to sacrifice to have our happily ever after?

Devoted is an emotional, dark, and passionate ride through love, trauma, and redemption. As the third book in the Beneath the Mask series, it finally gives readers Luca Russo’s story and what a story it is. Raised in the mafia world, Luca has always been a mystery, and seeing his journey unfold alongside Rosa, his enemy’s daughter, brings both heartbreak and hope.

Rosa’s character stands out in this series. She’s flawed and raw, struggling with addiction and trauma, and Luna Mason doesn’t shy away from showing the ugly parts of healing. Luca’s patience and devotion to her growth add real emotional depth. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their love feels hard-earned and real.

While the story dives deep into dark and emotional themes, at times it felt like the pacing stumbled — the book reads almost like two parts, which can make the flow feel uneven. Some moments also leaned heavier on spice than emotional connection, but overall, the balance of grit, love, and healing keeps you invested.

What makes Devoted shine is the sense of found family and continuity across the series. Seeing familiar faces return ties the world together beautifully, and the emotional payoff is worth every tear.
